Telling Our Stories Nourishes and Connects Us

I am your sister

I am your sister, do you remember  me ?

I come to let you know how it has been for me,

it has been a long time and it has not been easy,

                     have you forgotten me?

Do you remember our growing up together, fighting for

each other, not letting anyone tear us apart?

Do you remember when we ran and played together,

telling each other our secrets, did you forget me,

what happened, what divided us?

We do not talk anymore, we do not share secrets anymore,

what happened to us, what tore us apart?

did it have do with believing that there is not enough for each of us, or

did it have to do with age, language, opportunities, our beliefs

do you remember me?

You tell me I only want to cause trouble,

you tell me I should just be quiet, what was it, why did you

leave me, why did you want to silence me,

do you remember me?

Do you remember what I smell like, do you remember what I feel like,

do you remember what we  promised?

We promised that we would fight for each other,

together, do you remember me?

Do you see what has happened to us,

or do you see, and have decided without telling me

that we no longer share what we shared as young children,

and as young women?

Is the commitment and connection gone,

and as women we now speak of betrayal and hurt

without realizing that it is you

and I who have caused this division between us,

and it is you and I who must heal this division between us.

I am your sister, do you remember me?
